As the first beauty pageant for married women celebrates its 40th anniversary, we are looking back to highlight some of the stand-out queens who have competed in Mrs. World over the years.
Dr. Celan’s Inspiring Backstory
Dr. Patricia Celan was born in Europe and raised in Canada since she was 3 years old. She survived a childhood filled with abuse, which inspired her passion to help people who have experienced trauma in their lives. She became a doctor after completing her medical degree in 2018, and her difficult childhood fueled her decision to choose psychiatry as her specialty.
Her strength lies in her determination and courage when she is passionate about a cause. Dr. Celan’s journey has not been without its struggles; she has been bravely outspoken about the turmoil of experiencing discrimination and workplace bullying as an adult. Nevertheless, she takes the quote “turn your wounds into wisdom” to heart, seeking to become a better person in spite of the adversity she has overcome.
Pageantry for Advocacy
Dr. Celan found meaning in pageantry, when she represented Canada in multiple international pageants. She utilized those international platforms to share her vision of a world free of mistreatment, where humans don’t have to fear abuses like domestic violence or human rights violations, and where animals also have their freedoms respected. As an ethical vegan who is conscious of the harms caused to animals in various animal exploitation industries, Dr. Celan believes that we can one day see a world that is equal and free of all kinds of abuse no matter the person or species, provided everyone is motivated to collaborate on this goal. Through volunteerism and activism, she wishes to encourage individuals to take the time to be the change we all wish to see in the world.
Whimsical National Costume
This remarkable woman has a fun side that truly makes her stand out among Mrs. World’s past national queens. She competed in Mrs. World 2022 in Las Vegas, where she won the Most Whimsical National Costume Award and received a custom Mrs. World Congeniality trophy from a group of her sister queens.
While participating as Mrs. Canada at Mrs. World, Dr. Celan wore a transforming costume. The costume started with her wearing a red sequined mini-dress with wings made of crisp autumn maple leaves. Her voiceover during the performance recited a whimsical rhyme about the popularity of maple syrup in Canada. As the voice spoke about the last maple leaves falling, Dr. Celan pulled her costume open and spun in a circle. Her maple leaves fell down and she transformed into a snow angel in a sparkling white gown, adorned with handmade artificial feathers and glittering beadwork. She smiled through a final rhyme about making snow angels in freezing winters as she left the stage. That fun costume about Canada’s changing seasons was truly a highlight worthy of recognition as the Most Whimsical National Costume!
A Canadian Gem
As a woman of many talents and causes, Dr. Patricia Celan is a Canadian gem that continues to inspire with her passion, determination, and courage in her quest to create a better world. Her work and achievements thus far are a testament to her dedication to the cause. Dr. Celan’s story is proof that one can overcome any obstacle to achieve their dreams.
